Since last time…

  • Recovering from a highly successful night of eating leftovers and playing Rock Band. Have to go to bed before 02:30 tonight though. :-( #
  • UNCLEAN SUNDAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!!!!!!!!! #
  • The kiddo is really starting to get into sorting in a major way: blocks and gears by color, clothes by item–even making sock matches! #
  • That nap was not nearly long enough…. :-[ #
  • Interesting suggestions for “one-disc” rearrangements of The Beatles’ “White Album”: http://tinyurl.com/63eymp #
  • Valentine (lap-addicted cat) isn’t going to know what to do with herself when I go back to work tomorrow. #
  • There’s something incredibly endearing about a child running around with her ducky ball saying “Duck! Duck! Duck! Duck! Duck! Duck! Duck!” #
  • Trying to use Photoworks and being reminded of what my mother taught me about “if you don’t have anything nice to say”…. #

  • Kiddo’s up way too early this morning, and is awful surly about something. #
  • Original Pancake House == home fry fail, service fail #
  • The schedule’s a bit funky today, but the naps are just as good (although still over too soon). #
  • Preparing for the onslaught of guests to help kill leftovers and play silly video games. Mmm, leftovers! Yay, games! #

  • Good news: replacing primary AEBS solved my wifi packet loss issues. Bad news: took way to long to make everything play nice. #
  • I love my Al MacBook, but I wish the 2-finger scroll would act more like the iPhone; when flicked quickly, keep moving/glide to a stop. #

Mike: Python: You’re Doing It Wrong

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 at 11:33 EST

A coworker just showed me this little gem–a maintenance script that’s got no author attribution and isn’t in source control, so whoever has perpetrated this crime against all that’s good and holy remains anonymous and (for the moment) safe from our wrath. I’m so completely taken aback by this–I… I don’t know what to say. I just have to share.

#!/usr/bin/env python
import os,sys
C=os.chdir
S=os.system
M=os.mkdir
J=os.path.join
A=os.path.abspath
D=os.path.dirname
E=os.path.exists
W=sys.stdout.write
V=sys.argv
X=sys.exit
ERR=lambda m:W(m+"\n")
PRNT=lambda m:W(m+"\n")
assert len(V)==2,"you must provide a sandbox name"
SB=V[1]
H=A(D(__file__))
SBD=J(D(H),SB)
C(SBD)
PST=J(SBD,'bin/paster')
VAR=J(SBD,'var')
ETC=J(SBD,'etc')
S("mkdir -p "+VAR)
PRNT("restarting "+SB)
CMD=";".join(['source %s'%J(SBD,'bin/activate'),PST+" serve --daemon --pid-file=%s/sandbox.pid --log-file=%s/sandbox.log %s/sandbox.ini start"%(VAR,VAR,ETC)])
PRNT(CMD)
S(CMD)
PRNT("All done!")
X(0)

Weep for us.
