After a long day of fighting with Safari issues and worrying about shipping my monitor off for repair, I was rewarded with a lovely dinner with my wife, a surprise early result from the frame shop, a little bit of work in the baby room (hung pictures, hooked up the old iMac), and then… photo opportunities!
First, Valentine got a turn in the baby chair, which she has so far been uninterested in. But after a brief but non-violent dispute, she reneged and Julia tucked in to play and relax.
I think I’m starting to get the hang of my new 50mm prime lens, though I think it might be just about time for a flash to try to balance out the harsh light of the CFLs that we’ve been switching to. This is also probably just about the point where Liz will begin to regret encouraging me to get a hobby.

Aren’t you worried the cats might be a bit territorial when the baby arrives and they start getting shoo’ed out of places they used to get rewarded with attention for playing in?
A friend of mine had one of her two cats start spraying the door to what was becoming the nursery when she became pregnant with her first child.
I love the syrupy, diffuse golden light in many of your cat photos… they make everything look magical.
I actually don’t like it that much — it’s from the CFLs, which produce a much harsher, yellow light than what we used to use. It’s a bitch if you want truer colors when photographing.
Yeah, the thought has crossed our minds — luckily, this bouncy chair is a hand-me-down, and we received another at the shower. So the cats can get attached to this one all they like. Also Julia seems to hang out in the chair without any of us being around, so it doesn’t seem to be an attention ploy — she seems to genuinely want a(nother) cozy, cat-sized thing to sit on.
So far they have treated the crib with great hesitation and fear; while they’ll prowl around the top railing, they definitely don’t seem to want to get into it. I plan on encouraging that distaste by covering the mattress with double-sided tape applied to a dismantled cardboard box, so that they learn that they really don’t want to be in there.
Also, no spraying so far. We’re making sure that they get plenty of love and attention and don’t freak out about the new arrival. (We’ll even have Liz come in the door first, by herself, when baby comes home, so that she can make sure the cats know they are still loved.)
We’ll cope somehow, to be sure.
oh… I figured it was the setting sun or something like that.
Yup, you guys have definitely taken that into consideration then. Excellent planning. =)
Liz is nothing if not organized.
Sounds a lot like another Liz I know. =)
