A day of bush-pruning and art-show-wandering has left me in the mood to close some browser tabs and have a happy little link-o-rama for June. Joy!
First off, how about 101 versions of “Stairway to Heaven”? And if your ears aren’t bleeding too much from that, let’s chase that down with the best 50 video game ending songs.
While we’re on the subject of “top-N” lists, check out the top 10 strangest Lego creations; Han Solo frozen in carbonite looks pretty badass to me. (Now where could I put that?)
Thanks to some clever video editing, we can finally settle the debate about how it’d go down if the Enterprise tangled with the evil Galactic Empire. And even though Gnarls Barkley isn’t really my cup of tea, I have to say that Chewbacca on drums totally kicks ass.

I wanted Gnarls Barkley to be better than they are. Crazy is one of my favorite songs this year, but the rest of the album just isn’t as good as it or any Gorillaz stuff (that’s Danger Mouse as Obi-Wan or the Emperor on keyboards - he and the singer are the only real members). I mean, it’s good but not great. That performance was just priceless, though.
I personally think it should be edited to bush-destroying and art-show-buying, frame-picking-outing.
Hmm… Yet no Metal Gear Solid on the list of video game ending songs? Tsk. Certainly one of my favorites.
hee hee. You made my night with the TNG vs. The Empire. And although I had never heard the name “Gnarls Barkley” until this very moment, I have to say I approve greatly of Chewbacca on drums. (That man must’ve been melting under those lights! Drumming is not exactly a sedate thing to do…)
And I liked the song too. Not a lot of movement in it, but it grooved pretty well. Awesome.
That’s right, that is Danger Mouse, isn’t it?
I’ve really gotten to like the Gorillaz discs; “Demon Days” especially. Would you believe it was an NPR segment that turned me onto it?? Gotta love NPR!
Though recently my favorite Gorillaz track is “Hong Kong”, off of a collection called “Help” that I found on iTunes. Really beautiful, with an elegant melancholy about it.
That performance does indeed kick serious ass. I mean, honestly, if either of us had a band performing at the MTV Movie Awards, would we turn down the chance to perform live as the cast of Star Wars? I think not!
Dear NSA,
The phrase “bush-destroying” refers to our gardening practices and not our voting habits.
U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
kthxbye
(I’ll partake of your link-o-rama later, when I have a chance to listen…)
How was the art show? We managed to miss both days of it due to other commitments during the hours it was open. *sigh* It’s probably for the best because there would have been buying, and that could have been bad.
Pretty decent overall, much better than the “arts and crap” fairs over at St. John Westshore. We bought a print of a photo of a wine cave in Tuscany that was busily aging Vino Nobile, then promptly took advantage of the 20% framing discount (tied to the art show) over at Frames Unlimited.
Which of course was completely not the intent when we set out to just take a “quick look around” before moving from lunch to other errands, but it seems to have worked out okay.
I especially liked the dude with the fancy rocking-animals; the rocking-moose was particularly dramatic, and you’ve just got to love a rocking-monkey. Really gorgeous work.
I also liked the photographer who shot dramatically-lit incense smoke with mirrors to achieve a symmetrical image. Really neat. He also had a lot of super-arty nudes that were really excellent but seemed perhaps a bit too nipply for a Sunday afternoon crowd.
