Foreign language update

Please note, this has been updated again, this is to keep track of options and ideas.

Berlitz, Rockside Rd. - I called them the other day and asked to be e-mailed info, I have STILL NOT received the information. From what I can tell from other cities, cost is over $1,500 for a 8 week class.

Alta House, Little Italy, Italian Classes — I e-mailed this info before, 6 weeks for $65. The instructor is a friend of someone from Rotary, hence how I found out. Someone in my monthly wine series in at the senior active lifestyle center has taken this class and didn’t care for it very much.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Westside Little Italy (there is such a thing?) W. 69th & Detroit, Italian Classes — Call back in Aug or Sept, currently taught on Mondays. Classes are FREE, they ask for a donation to be given to the church twice a year. Lady from wine series at senior active lifestyle center has taken the class and highly recommends. They have a beginners and intermediate class that meets on the same night.

Tutors for French — I have the name for one with no contact information and have friend from Rotary looking around to see if another friend teachs French. Hopefully will have more info next week.

College classes — looks like all the schools around town have the traditional programs, nothing that looks outstanding. I’ve done the classroom thing and it hasn’t worked out, time to try something different.

German classes — Offered at the German American Cultural center in Olmstead Twp during the school year. The langauage class web site. One of Mike’s co-workers teach the class and is going to do a crash course for me before our trip to Germany.

5/18 Thoughts — As of right now, I’m going to see how much of the Alta House I’d miss this summer, $65 isn’t bad and than go into the Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the fall. But I’m going to hold off till I hear more on the French tutor. I’d really prefer to start with French since I have at lease SOME background in it.

5/19 Thoughts — Things have changed in 24 hours. Looks like I’m going to hold off on the Italian class this summer. I’d miss 2 classes, plus going to do a crash German class before our trip. Don’t think I have time with work and school to deal with 2 languages. I still would prefer to learn French over the German and Italain, but with all the information I’ve found to date, German and Italian will be cheaper (don’t need to hire a tutor) and I can actually find information.
