I’ve studies foreign langagues from first grade on. It was off and on for a while and either French or Spanish. One thing I’ve learned is I suck at it. Well, I need to learn one of them, and be fluent.
I’m currently using CDs in the car, but realize I need to kick it up a level.
A residency period in an emmersion program really isn’t an option.
Other ideas, go back to school, but where, any one know a good program? Are there other options out there?

Coincidentally, I too have to learn French for school and have been doing some research on my options.
I have been told by several people that the Rosetta Stone program in French is pretty good - we have a friend who is moving to France who started with it in his road to fluency - and that it’s a good place to start.
I assume that when you refer to La Maison Française de Cleveland that you’re going to look for a tutor? Another option is to contact the French departments at the local schools and see whether any have any French undergraduate or graduate students interested in tutoring. (Case has a graduate program in French, but they seem to be the only local school to do so.)
A third option is to take classes in French at one of the local schools. Tri-C seems to be the best bet for this: it has evening courses at their Western campus and independent study courses available both this summer and fall. Case, CSU, and Lorain CC only offer courses during the day (or, in the case of LCC over the internet) and therefore aren’t really good for either of us!
If you come up with any better ideas, let me know! This is just what I’ve got thus far.
Best option that’s not possible, move to France and toss myself in for a year.
The class thing is an option, though I did French 101 & 102 in college, and let’s just say they didn’t go well for several reasons. The big reasons, one being 102 was the semester my Dad died and two being I had the worst teacher in the world and I think the woman died the year after I left from lung cancer.
How far along do you feel you are with learning French?
