Um, I’m guessing you’ve never been to a festival in the countryside in Italy. I have. “The festival of the toasts.” There was an Italian band. It played many tunes that sounded very similar to American pop songs from the 70s and 80s. And, yes, they played YMCA.
We also heard YMCA played by a DJ/house band at a restaurant in Bologna last summer…the one with the flamethrowers, belly dancers, and snake charmers. (Have I posted that story yet on LJ? I need to go back through those notes and start posting them in jennyneill.)

Any story that combines a restaurant with flamethrowers, belly dancers, and snake charmers definitely bears repeating far and wide.
