Okay, we are officially living in Bizarro World…
We went to the Brew Kettle with
butterandjelly a couple of Wednesdays ago, and while there I tasted (and completed!) a sampler flight of beers. Amazingly, after years of hating beer with a vengeance, I’ve started to find things that, beyond merely not offending my palate, and pretty damn tasty! So far I’m mostly preferring porters, stouts, and Belgian things, as long as they are “good”–I think my previous issues, like those with seafood and wine, were due to the fact that I’d never really had anything worth having.
Still–no good can come of this!

The only beer I really really like is lambic, which is Belgian! and also too fruity to be “real” beer and also pegs me as a wussy effeminate snob. I discovered the other day that I also like at least one dark Czech beer (I think it was called Litova or something). I FREAKING HATE GUINNESS.
The one problem is I still have no alcohol tolerance and so having half a beer makes me incredibly sleepy and thus a really bad conversationalist at a bar.

Ooh, I sense a spicy conflict of interest! Will
exilejedi be faithful to
aquamindy’s profession, or will his dark desire for new alcoholic frontiers pose a threat to his marriage? Tune in next week to find out!
oh, come on - her profession allows for love of all alcohol. you just have to up your consumption to accommodate both beer and wine…and I am happy to help with that
Dude, lambic freaking rules!! That was kind of what got me started this summer — I had a peach lambic paired with a giant slab of bacon–think “steak” but put “bacon” in its place. I’ve been picking up all of the different lambics I can find and going through them one by one to decide which are better than others. One of the best ones was a Belgian “frambozenbier” that was somewhere between a framboise lambic and a Christmas ale… nummy! And there’s a place down the road that has framboise lambic on tap (soooo tasty).
(Are you calling me a wussy effeminate snob? I mean, it’s not too far from the truth, I’m just checkin’.
As far as Liz, she’s pretty amused by my newfound beer interest; she’s now able to rediscover the stuff that she likes… Early on, she had to somewhat give it up because I didn’t like kissing her after she’d been drinking beer. (Yuck! Beer kisses!) Plus when you’re dealing with wine day in and day out, apparently it’s nice to be able to drink something else when you’re off.
Try Boutie-call
It is framboised port.
oh god it is so good!

Discovered that last winter…
It’s fantastic stuff, especially with really good dark chocolate. Plus they start it with their Syrah, which I enjoy anyway.
The Bonny Doon Framboise dessert wine is also excellent with dark chocolate and friends, and makes a LOVELY addition to chocolate mousse! (Mmmmmmm….)
Yes. I have stories of boutie call, toasts, horn-drinking at about 9′500 feet. The unfortunate thing is that I heard Bonny Doon does not make it anymore *wails/gnashes teeth*
I am still trying beer (sips here, sips there) but I have not found anything that i absolutely love. When things have fallen down completely, and I *need* to have a drink the *only* beer I’ve been able to quaff effectively is Belhaven.
You might give that a try.
see, I will soon start to be selling beers, just waiting for the license to be approved by state of ohio. So, he will still be faithful.
Wait till I start selling single malt Scotch!
Ack!
Scotch or, “Spotch” was the *other* thing I was drinking along with the bootie-call! Two great tastes.. that taste great together?
*wobble*
