This just in from those lovable liberal loonies at MoveOn.org… I don’t pass along much of their chatter, but I hadn’t realized that this was coming to a vote so soon. Please read what they have to say, and act with your conscience, whatever your opinion.
Congress is about to vote on amending the U.S. Constitution to deny marriage equality to same-sex couples.
Never before has our Constitution been amended to take away anyone’s rights. Yet our Senators will vote on this amendment in the next 48 hours.
It’s urgent that we speak up now. This hateful divisiveness has no place in America. Please join me in saying so, at:

Equality in marriage is the civil rights issue of our generation. We can’t let anyone, or any group, be singled out for discrimination based on who they are or who they love.
Thank you.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but 1) I don’t believe the vote is less about getting an amendment and more about partisan politics in an election year. They can’t really think they have a 2/3 majority to move the amendment along; and 2) am I the only one that thinks it’s a slight exaggeration to say it’s the civil rights issue of our generation? When 1 in 5 black males (or is it more than that now? Is it 1 in 3?) end up in prison and women still aren’t paid or afforded the same opportunities as men and we still don’t have adequate health care or benefits or welfare for the poor, is this really the issue it should be? No, we’re just trying to deflect the real issues and fire up the venom and hatred from the right and left.
Sorry about this. I’m used to weeding through the rhetoric. I see enough venomous statements from the right that I try to filter through them. The left does the same. Just trying to provide some perspective. I hate to see people misled by pure emotion, be it Christian conservative or flaming progressive.
OK, I can’t type. My point was “I don’t believe they’re trying to pass an amendment. I believe it’s about partisan politics and stirring up voters.”
