I missed MoveOn.org’s webcast of their “Bush in 30 Seconds” shin-dig, but finally did get a chance to see all of the finalists.
While there were some not-very-good ones in the 1500+ that were submitted, some pretty impressive ads came out of the contest as well. Many, especially (most of) the finalists, are worth your time to check out. Particularly good were “Child’s Play”, “In My Country”, “Polygraph”, “What Are We Teaching Our Children”, “Human Cost of War”, “Desktop” (for you fellow Mac geeks), “Bankrupt”, “Bush’s Repair Shop”, “Pop Quiz”, “Al Keyda”, and “Bring It On”.
I was also amused by the concept of “If the Bush Administration Was Your Roommate”, but it needed a little more zing than it had.
Oh, and since it seems to be the meme du jour…

My friend Alex did one. His was called “Tommy” I think. It was very cute.
Yeah, I had a lot of fun watching the ‘bush in 30 seconds’ ads. Some were just brilliant. Some were lame-o. Some were just MEAN.
I am also apparently an intellectual. Too bad. I was kind of hoping for terrorist - those turbans are tres sexy!
(pretend the e in tres has an accent on it, and that I have a french accent. It helps)
(further note that I fully expect to be put on some sort of terrorist watch list for saying I was hoping for terrorist)
(further further note that I really like parenthetical asides)
By the way, which Cowboy Bebop soundtrack disk has a live version of Bad Dog No Biscuit on it? Or did you mean that you were in fact watching that episode and hearing it ‘live’ as you typed this post?
No, I will not let you be a
terroristhippie for Halloween! It’s on the Cowboy Bebop OST Box Set. There are some things from the show on there that aren’t on any of the other Bebop CD’s, there are some alternate versions that were recorded but never used, and there’s a whole set of the Seatbelts (with Yoko Kanno, of course) performing live in Japan that occupies most of Disc 4.
Plus if you’re lucky, it comes with the CD-3 single that has some bizarro vocal versions of certain songs, like an extended “Go Go Cactus Man” with vocals, and a really wacked out version of “Tank!” that features Ed and Ein.
Good stuff, highly recommended.
I’m suddenly very jealous. One of my coworkers (the one I borrowed the DVDs from, actually) has OST discs 1 & 3. But that’s it.
I feel the need to go spend money. Must… Grip… Wallet… firmly!!
In the interest of complete disclosure and maximum evil influence, I have to say it is definitely one of the best CD purchases I’ve ever made. ]
