After my super-long day at work launching a new site, and the subsequent drinking binge with the three people who were still left, I got home to find that Christmas had come early for Pixel. She gave me a forceful lecture about being home so late, and why was Momma still gone, no one loves the little kitty, and I fixed a quick dinner.
Then it was time to open her Christmas present. Naturally, some assembly was required. Being one for some assembly, there was no way in hell that I could leave it alone. And thus…
Yeah, I know, I should probably get some sleep soon; I’ll have some stuff to get done at work tomorrow before I post what I was originally going to post about tonight.

Yay for cute, happy pixel! Looks like she really likes it.
(snuggas for da kitty!)
Such a considerate boy, this one. I always said.
That looks like one spoiled kitty…
She sure is… But I kind of felt like I owed it to her.
During a recent rearrangement in the office, we finally got around to attaching the shelving to the wall for improved stability. Unfortunately, this means the shelving is all much closer to the wall than it was before, and there’s no room for her to jump between shelves any more. She was pretty upset about this new arrangement, since her favorite safe hiding place was behind the books above my monitor. She’d run and hide there whenever noisy children or unpleasant strangers were about, and no one could find her.
This way, she’s still going to be a bit exposed, but at least she’ll have some serious altitude advantage.
And by “unpleasant strangers” he means “pleasant strangers”. I am one. I love kitties. They love me. Except for Pixel. She hates everyone except Mike & Liz. Crazy cat.
Pixel used to love everyone, but then
darlox was all confrontational with her while
gieves was over once to feed her. It’s been all downhill ever since then, partly because no one ever comes to visit us any more (notable recent exception being
oogby and
reasie, and Pixel eventually decided to be civil to them). She was nice to the guy who worked on our half bath last spring, and she adored the lady who came out to help us pick colors to paint the bedroom. And after a day or two in her company, Pixel absolutely loves sitting on my mother-in-law. The same goes for my parents too.
Really, it all comes down to attitude, focus, respect for space, and all that. The trick for new people is to enter the house without making a ruckus, and get out of the entry area efficiently, and then completely ignore the cat until she decides to take an interest. Otherwise she just feels threatened and will defend what is hers.
And yes, I’ve even read some cat psychology books to try to figure out her sometimes antisocial behavior, and they seem to be fairly correct. The real problem, though, is that since we so rarely have visitors, it’s hard for her to get used to the situation.
I dunno. She was even schizo with
supercarrot, who is very kind to animals. She was purring and looking for scratches one second and hissing the next. (The cat, not Carrie.) Go fig.
I love you guys and all, but that cat is CREEPY! (I know she’s your baby, though.)
In our defense, I would like to say that
darlox only got confrontational with her after she tried to take off our hands at the wrist for no apparent reason! Since it had been the third time that she spazzed at me, I figured it was fine that he called her on it.
The whole purring “love me, love me, I’m gonna bite your arm off” behaviour is a little unnerving…
