On second thought, let’s not go to Camelot; it is a silly place

I Found Nemo!

We’re just back from the 9:45 show of Finding Nemo at the DLP screen. If anyone had any worries about how “the fish movie” would turn out, lay them aside and get ready for a treat!

It completely amazes me that Pixar is able to keep turning out such stunningly good films. The voice cast was spot-on. The music was great. The sound and picture were perfect. The pacing, the action, the humor, the suspense, all exactly as they should be. And every single frame, completely beautiful, every frame a work of art. Absolutely lovely.

I laughed. I cried. It was better than Cats.

In fact… (putting on my flame-retardant suit)…

It was way, way, way better than The Matrix. By miles and miles (nautical miles, to be precise).

Hey, at least the CGI fishies can act, which is something that can’t be said for Keanu and his little virtual buddies.

As a nice bonus, there are also a ton of great movie references strewn throughout — watch for nods to films like The Shining, Psycho, Jaws, and even The Terminator; cameos from Buzz Lightyear, Mike Wazowski, and the Luxo Jr. ball; and of course more Miyazaki references than you can shake a stick at (you may be reminded very strongly of Spirited Away during one particular chase sequence). Even the short film attached to the beginning, the classic Knick Knack, is delightfully echoed in the plight of the Brotherhood of the Tank.

This is certainly the best film I’ve seen so far this year, though I’m sure Return of the King may challenge it for that spot in my heart. But meanwhile, since the Two Towers DVD’s aren’t out yet… how many times do you think Liz will let me go see Nemo?
